On February 27th 2024, Kamau Ware, Founder of Kamau Studios and Black Gotham Experience premiered a digital comic book titled Buffalo Sonnet commissioned by Lincoln Center for their Legacies of San Juan Hill project. It has been considered “groundbreaking”.

Buffalo Sonnet opens with a timeless African medicine woman who shares a prayer with Black people living in the New York City neighborhood San Juan Hill in 1922. This sonnet is offered for generational healing to children of the African Diaspora suffering from displacement and violence. The story follows two main characters – a young boy named Paint and a mother of three named Barbara.
