The Schomburg Center’s 6th Annual Black Comic Book Festival

January 13, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 7:00 pm

Free – $25

The Schomburg Center’s Annual Black Comic Book Festival (BCBF) celebrates the rich tradition of Black comix featuring panel discussions, film screenings, a cosplay show, and exhibit tables with premiere independent Black comic creators from across the United States. The annual extravaganza, which drew close to 12,000 attendees in 2017, connects diverse comic readers, creators, bloggers, nerds, independent publishers, and collectors of all ages.

At our Schomburg debut, we celebrated the premiere of a special, limited edition, signed preview of the Black Gotham Experience graphic novel, Other Side of Wall Street: Ocean Dreams. Our graphic novel’s creators, Kamau Ware and William Ellis, met new and longtime BGX fans.  Graphic novel characters Domingo, Anthony and BaySes were also in the house!  And Kamau explored how comic books are used to retell forgotten histories in an engaging conversation with moderator Mike Sargeant and fellow panelists Greg Burnham (Tuskegee Heirs) and Ray Felix (Bronx Heroes).
